Why not join us? Tell me - what is Prescription Art Test Valley? And what can it do for me?

Prescription Art Test Valley is a registered charity based in the Test Valley in Hampshire. Set up in 2016 by a team of insightful local health professionals who recognise the role that music and art can play in transforming people’s experiences of depression, bereavement, loneliness and anxiety. Our six week courses will provide you with creative tools and techniques that promote a sense of well-being and connection, and have the full support of local practices. They are designed especially for you, and provide uplifting group art or singing/music sessions in a friendly and gently structured setting; you can take part in a way that feels comfortable and right!

We know just how daunting it can feel to join something new for the first time - so our facilitators are on hand ready to welcome you and ensure you feel at ease from the moment you join us.

How can I join a course?

It’s easy. Have a chat with your general practitioner or health professional, and they will make a referral on your behalf. There are 3 courses throughout the year. Each course is made up of six weekly sessions; at each session you can enjoy two hours of creative sanctuary. They are currently taking place at: Dr Peter Centre, Baden Powell Way, Romsey SO51 8EA.Parking is available and there is good access to the venue.

Who pays for them?

Sessions are free of charge, and all materials and refreshments provided for you. Our great team of volunteers offer their services free of charge, only our expert facilitators are paid a small fee for their services.

Do I need to have any skills before joining you all?

You do not need to have any artistic or musical ability and you do not need to bring equipment. It’s easy and fun to join in! So why not give us a go? If you want to continue with your art, or singing, our follow on art sessions will enable you to do so. Our musical sessions continue in six week blocks throughout the year. We are developing these to include exciting new aspects of singing, voice production, dance and music making!
